SPARTANBURG, SC — Kathryn Harvey, the Democratic nominee for the U.S. House of Representatives in South Carolina’s 4th Congressional District, today released the following statement regarding the results of the 2024 election:

“We began this campaign six short months ago with two goals in mind: to give the good people of the Upstate a real choice on their ballot and to fight for the girls, women, and working families of the Upstate. This morning, I thank the voters across Greenville and Spartanburg Counties who embraced that choice and supported our grassroots movement.

“Together, we ran an aggressive but clean campaign that prioritized the urgent needs of Upstate families and held our three-term congressman accountable for his harmful, party-line voting record. Although we fell short of flipping SC-04 this time around, the achievements of our campaign speak for themselves.

“Over the course of this campaign, we raised half a million dollars — more than any other Democrat in the district’s history. We boosted voter engagement and down-ballot support for Upstate candidates. And we demonstrated electoral progress in one of the fastest-growing congressional districts in the country.

“The hard work of so many supporters and volunteers contributed to this race becoming the most closely watched contest of the cycle in South Carolina. With their help, we carved a path for future Upstate Democrats seeking to restore balance to our politics.

“I couldn’t be prouder of all that we have accomplished, but our work is far from over. The sheer number of extreme politicians newly elected to our U.S. Congress in Washington and our General Assembly in Columbia poses a credible threat to the safety of girls, women, and families across South Carolina.

“In the coming weeks and months, I will continue to advocate on behalf of their basic rights and fundamental freedoms. I ask that you join me in this fight, because I’m not going anywhere.”
