Kathryn Harvey Statement on Two Years Since SCOTUS Decision to Overturn Roe v. Wade

June 25, 2024

“We cannot go back to the dark ages on women’s health and parity. The majority of Americans, including those here in SC-04, support a women’s right to make their own healthcare decisions. We live in a state where pregnancy-related deaths are 47% higher than the national average. We need a member of Congress who will restore reproductive freedom.”

Spartanburg, SC -- Kathryn Harvey, democratic nominee for South Carolina’s Fourth Congressional District, released the following statement today marking two years since the U.S. Supreme Court ruled to overturn a nearly 50 year precedent in protecting an individual’s right to choose, Roe v. Wade.

“Two years ago, the Supreme Court of the United States overturned Roe V. Wade, a decision my incumbent publicly applauded. Since then, Republicans in Congress have launched a full-fledged attack on reproductive freedom and family planning. Just a few weeks ago, Republican representatives in D.C voted against protecting contraception access and access to fertility treatments like IVF. The time is now to elect candidates who trust women to make their own healthcare decisions.

SC ranks 8th highest for maternal mortality when compared to other states and 13 counties are considered maternal healthcare deserts. South Carolina legislators passed a six week ban since the fall of Roe impacting thousands of women statewide.

South Carolina’s 4th Congressional District includes parts of Greenville and Spartanburg counties.
